Terraforming
Everyone knows that we will not be able to live on this lovely blue planet we call home for ever. the sun will get too big eventually and drive us out or burn us up. It’s going to be a while so I don’t think anyone’s quite too worried yet. But I wonder could we not have to travel light years away but just hop on over to our neighboring planet Mars. I’m not the only one to think this is a plausible idea. It is called terraforming and I believe this is the best we can do with our current technology. Changing the planet could take hundreds to thousands of years for all I know. First of all we would have to wait for the sun to get a little bigger and hotter so it wouldn’t be too cold way out there. That one is gonna take a while. But once it’s warm enough to support plants we could put some out there to begin the production of oxygen. Before we can do that we need to get a man on Mars first and establish how well the dirt can handle plant life or if we need to do some modifications. There’s a lot of frozen water on Mars and once it’s warmed up we can utilize that, and if needed ship some over, that will be no easy task. According to other scientific studies we would have to bring in other gasses for the atmosphere. Mars also lacks a magnetosphere which is a part of the atmosphere that is created by our magnetic field and blocks solar radiation. I dn’t quite know how we would solve that problem but it’s pretty crucial to living outside. Some scientists think Mars may have once had flowing water and life on it. But that was probably because it had a molten core and a magnetic field supporting it. There are also ideas of teraforming venus or moons of other gas giants but I believe Mars would be the easiest to do. It’s a long shot but if we could do manage it would be the most practical means of surviving.

Weather
So according to our climate “experts” climate change or global warming whichever you want to call it is supposed to make the seasons change earlier and the weather warmer. Well it’s a few days from June and this last week when I look out the window I see rain, and right now there’s plenty of it. So I’m wonderin three possible answers. This could be a fluke, the climatologists are full of sh%, or a theory that Mr. Smith introduced to me. A volcano went off earlier this year releasing huge amounts of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere. This was said to have lowered the global temperature. Some scientists wanted to artificially release sulfur dioxide into the atmopsphere to nullify the effects of global warming, so im wondering did the volcano do the trick. Even if it did I have some problems with that way of treating our problems. For one you’re treating an effect of global warming not a cause. And for two releasing that much sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere and messing with our fragile atmosphere could cause unfonseen consequence that may be disastorous, I mean we didn’t know what was going to happen to our planet when we started pouring billions of tons of carbon dioxide into the air.

Vitamadness
SO many people in america have goteen into the supplement craze that it has become a multi billion dollar business. And all I have to say about this is people are stupid. If you eat healthy and have a balanced diet you should be good. Well there is the select few with calcium disorders and what not but still if they were fed right through their whole life that should be no problem. Everyone is concerned with being super healthy and trying to live forever. But can you be too healthy? Well people who take too many supplements hace been known to get liver damage. And I just read an article on yahoo recently that found small amounts of heavy metals in nearly all the products that were tested in the study. They also found in 16 of the 40 supplements tested that there were unnacaptable levels of pesticides in them. In a study done more than 2,000 dietary supplements from some 300 manufacturers, his lab has found that one in four has quality problems, the Times said.Oops. Looks like these wonder drugs aren’t so wonderfull at all. Some of them even claim to cure diseases that we have no cure to or help you stop or reverse aging. But what really is going on here is what has been seen since man could think, trying to scam our fellow man. Well ther’s always been suckers out there and there always will with clever people to take advantage of them something like this will always be going on.

Sooo close
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, yes indeed the end is in sight. But I’ve got some streesors too. The good thing is i’ve got the first half of my day all done with. fist period is weights and thats real easy all done with. Today I finished my accounting final and I have no more work to do in that class. Third period pottery all my projects are done and i’m sittin pretty. Government class all that’s left is the final project which i completed a while ago. But fifth and sixth period is where i’m having my problems. In both those classes I’m in the c-d range and I really need to clean up to finish up good because at this point a D is unnacceptable due to a court order. Fifth period is physics and i’m stressin at this point. I have an essay to write the final test to finish up(start not to mention) and two more worksheets to finish up. I finished up a work packet today and plan to do my essay tonight. But I’ve still got a whole bunch of work to do and it’s gonna be a stretch to get everything in on time. Then comes contemporary literature. I’ve got my future project all done and i’m so happy about that but I’m about a thousand words shy of blogging tryin to do work on that. And some semi diffiult essay questions to do. So at this point I’m kind of stressed out and have little time for fun and am going to have to devote a whole bunch of time to just doing work. But you know what it’s okay because when all this is said and done i’ll be a high school graduate and ready to move on with my life.

Censorship today
Here in America we don’t have super strict restrictions on media. But lately a few other countries have not seen it our way. Everyone has heard about China’s censorship of google but recently the muslim community has joined in. They have banned facebook after they had an “everyone draw muhamid day”. It’s well known that any depiction of muhamad is strictly against their religion. They have also banned youtube. It seems some of their censors have leaked over to us. on a recent episode of South Park they showed muhhamad in a costume. A person from the muslim comunity threatened the writers if they continued to show it and wrote their adress down on the letter sent by them. On the first airing they bleeped out the entire conversation at the end, and have not shown the episode since in fear for their life. SO they can influence our culture as much as we can theirs. I understand how it can be offensive to them depicting their prophet as many of their entire lifes are based on religion. And i do believe that the “everyone draw muhamid day” is crossing the line a bit and would definitely anger some people, but i don’t think it’s enough to censor facebook youtube and other websites. If you don’t like that stuff dont look at it, there will always be people doing stuff just to piss you off. Governments should realize this and not censor entire sites when just one thing is offensive, or trty and hide things like China has.

Offshore wind farms
So a kinda new way to get renewable energy has been passed in the senate. they are finnally allowing offshore wind turbines to be installed off the coast of Massachusets. I think this is a great idea and wondered why they hadnt started doing this earlier. But I guess people would rather have an ocean view than have a huge dependance on foreign oil. I mean it’s so stupid people wouldn’t consider that a good sight, I’d be happy to see those in my backyard if it meant a lowered PG&E bill and renewable energy. And I think it’s hilarious there’s native american tribes trying to opose this saying it’s messing with sacred Indian burial grounds. I didn’t know they buried their people five miles out to sea in hundreds feet deep water that’s kinda weird. And I thought native americans would of liked to help the planet from our ravaging of it’s resources but I guess not.

Unhappy meals
There is a county in California that has passed a bill making happy meals illegal. They say marketing with a toy will get children to want to come eat unhealthy food. Well being a child once I can tell you that does definitely influence the child’s decision. But my mom didn’t take me out to eat all that often and thats where the responsibility lies. People don’t need the government to make decisions for them they need to figure out how to be good parents and raise their children right. Responsibility should lie with the people not the state they need to learn how to say no to their children and be GOOD PARENTS.

What’s goin on down there?
So far in the year 2010 there have been four major earthquakes and a volcano. The worst in deaths was in haiti coming in at 7.0 and 230,000 deaths because of poor housing. Soon after a 8.8 earthquake struck in Chile. Then right in our own backyard below the border of California another biggun struck. And three days days ago a 6.9 earthquake rocked China near Tibet leaving hundreds dead. Just yesterday a volcano decided to blow in iceland that had been dormant since 1821. This has left hundreds of travelers in Europe stuck because all plane are grounded. I’m no geologist but theres something goin on down there I tell you what. It seems like our techtonic plates are getting a little restless down there and it’s not going so great for us. Well hopefully these are just coincedince and everything is all good. Or maybe it’s a precursos to something bigger, only time will tell.

Rancho Diss
I read recently an article from the press democrat talking smack about our school. Some of the bad points they made, however were true, but there are also a lot of good things about our school. Yes there are alot of pot smokers and unmotivated kids, but where is there not. Truth is we have student with high aspirations and hopes and I know will go places in life and make a difference in the world. were not all f*** ups and losers alot of us really care about ourselves and what happens to the world around us and all these people who have never been to rancho can say what they want but its on an individual basis and people who stereotype are ignorant.
